We have had several requests for students to be marked present when they are absent from school due to appointments, travel, etc.
While we recognize that students may still be able to complete work by accessing their Google classroom, and they are welcome to do so, our attendance will continue to be based on physical presence in school - the only exception being students who participate in full distance (Cohort D) learning. This is not meant to be punitive, but our attendance continues to be based on the need to accurately account for students who are physically present in the building should there be an emergency situation.
Some information with respect to changes in Cohorts -
If your student is currently in Cohort A, B or C and is requesting to move to Cohort D (full distance) this request should be made to your child’s counselor and will be accommodated as this does not impact transportation, class size, or a change in Cohort groupings.
If your student is in Cohort D (full distance) and would like to join Cohort A or B, this request will be considered. However, there will be a 30 day time frame to determine feasibility as well as to set up scheduling, transportation, etc. We must ensure that we keep our class sizes at the level allowing for social distancing as well as meet the needs of the individual student.
Once a change is made, it is final unless there are extenuating circumstances.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES UPDATE
Clubs are starting!
For those of you who requested one or more clubs during last week’s window, clubs are starting this week. All clubs will run 3:30-4:30PM. Teachers are emailing you and your children who appear on their rosters with instructions as to how to participate, so please check your email and/or your child’s email for details.
All clubs are virtual. Your child must have been given your prior permission to attend virtual meetings. This is what you granted at the beginning of the year and is not something new you have to do now. If your child is enrolled in a club but does not have permission to attend virtual meetings (including one-on-one meetings), please let me know via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Everyone who requested a club was placed in one for each day the requests were made. Keep in mind that the selection process was random and it is possible that your child did not receive his/her first choice.
If you missed the window to request a club, included in this communication is a list of the clubs that still have availability. You may email me at email@example.com with your child’s name, grade, and which club(s) they are interested in. These requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis as long as space allows. Any changes to this information will be communicated via School Messenger.

Thank you for supporting our WMS PTO Fall Mums Sale!
Your order will be available for pick up on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 9 am to 1 pm, at WMS.
We'll be located in the parking lot used for morning drop off (opposite the lot closest to the school's main entrance - picture attached). No need to get out, in order to stay socially distanced, we will put the mums in your trunk for you!
Please be sure to have your payment ready (we accept cash or check payable to WMS PTO) if you haven't already paid by Venmo.
