A Capella Singing Club - Big Treble (PM Club)

WMS's very own a capella singing group, Big Treble, made their debut last year! We are looking for new members to join us who love to sing and/or beat box. All grade levels are welcome. Last year we created our own arrangements to some popular songs and performed at Performing Arts Day. This year we hope to expand our group and performance opportunities. We hope you will join us!

Algebra & Geometry (PM Club)

This club is open to students enrolled in Algebra K, Algebra J, or Geometry at Warren Middle School, with Ms. Hunt, Ms. Cohen, or Mrs. Reynolds. The objective of the club is to support and reinforce concepts and skills taught in Algebra and Geometry. Students are not required to attend every week, but if signed up, may drop in throughout the year whenever they feel a need to get more help with their studies.

Archery Club (PM Club)

Archery is a life-long sport that engages students of all genders, physical abilities, and backgrounds. It is an excellent physical activity in which boys and girls can participate together, and puts athletes and non-athletes on a level playing field. Designed to teach international-style target archery, this after school program will cover safety, technique, equipment, mental concentration, and self-improvement. There will be 15 sessions offered, on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school starting March 29th. . Classes will be held in the back gym. No prior archery experience is needed.

Art Magazine (PM Club)

In the Art Magazine Club students will be able to attain cooperative work skills as they create artwork and computer generated images for publication in a school art magazine. As well students will be able to problem solve and develop analytical skills while developing work for publication. Students will learn how to format a magazine include type setting and cutting and pasting artworks into layouts for publication. Students will learn and apply all new skills and will be able to criticize their own work as well as their fellow classmates in individual and group critiques.

Astronomy & The Night Sky: What's Up There? (PM Club)

We will learn how to read star charts, how to track objects in the night sky, and what celestial events we can observe throughout the year; explore concepts of distance in space and follow current astronomical developments from NASA and other organizations. We will use The History Channel's video series "The Universe" as a resource.

Backstage Club (PM Club)

The students in the backstage club will learn to operate all audio and lighting equipment necessary for various school functions.

Beginner/ Intermediate Guitar Club (PM Club)

Goals: tune guitar/change strings/basic repair; learn/play basic guitar chord formations; be able to accompany oneself playing an easy pop song; play single line melodies (either reading music notes or guitar Tablature (TAB). Students can access free guitar shareware to learn songs on their chromebooks, to keep them focused and actively engaged during the entire period. Each student will get individual help as needed.

Board Games and Games of of Strategy (PM Club)

This year, back by popular demand is Board Games and Games of Strategy. Come join your friends, or make new ones, by playing popular and time tested board games. We will also have games of strategy such as Chess, Risk and Stratego. This club will meet weekly on Wednesdays and is open to students in 6, 7 and 8 grades.

Buddy to Buddy (PM Club)

This club provides an extension to the Character Education curriculum. The objective is to increase awareness and tolerance of students with disabilities, especially autism. Students will partner with students from the DLC . We will have pen pals, visits to each others' school, guest peakers, projects, community service.

Ceramics Club (PM Club)

In the Ceramics Club students will be able to learn basic clay hand- manipulation skills. The learners will be able to develop their problem solving skills when creating various types of sculpture. The students will be able to identify various styles of sculpture ranging from relief to free standing and apply this knowledge to the creation of art. The students will be able to distinguish between various styles in sculpture such as Abstract, Neo-Classical and Non-Representational. The students will be able to identify various types of pottery and apply this knowledge to the creation of ceramic plates, bowls and cups. The learners will get to explore color and color mixing and apply this knowledge to the glazing of their ceramic pieces.

Chess Club Adventures (PM Club)

All sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students will have an opportunity to participate in this club which will be held on Thursdays in room 32. Club sessions will start on September 27th and conclude in late December. During these months, chess club members will have an opportunity to travel after school to the Dean of Chess facility in Branchburg to learn chess from International Master, Dean Ippolito (optional trip). A chess afternoon will take place one day after school where middle schoolers visit ALT elementary school players in a cross grade experience. Additionally, the high school chess team may visit the after school club sessions occasionally to build rapport with the middle school chess players so they can create a larger cadre of chess players in the community. It’s a CHESS ADVENTURE!!

Color Our World (PM Club)

Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are invited to earn community service hours as they develop works of art using adult coloring materials. We will then research places in the community (nursing facilities, assisted living, hospices, hospitals, etc) in need of some brightening up. The students will select recipients and share their work to Color Our World and by doing so, will demonstrate a sense of altruism.

Creative Design (PM Club)

Crafting has been shown to have benefits for children in developing cognitive and fine motor skills, pattern recognition and other visual processing skills. Students participating in this club will have the opportunity to learn or improve their skills in knitting, cross-stitch and embroidery, hand-sewing, and other small projects, such as friendship bracelets. For each of these, they will learn to follow and adjust patterns and directions. In addition to learning crafting skills, students will have the opportunity to develop social skills. Students who have experience in a craft will have the opportunity to share their skills with other students.

Fiber Arts Club/ Creating Quilts, Soft Sculptures and Weavings (PM Club)

In the Fiber Arts Club students will be able to learn basic painting, sewing and weaving techniques. The learners will also be able to develop problem solving skills when creating various types of 3-dimensional artworks such as soft sculptures, wall hangings, quilts, and weavings. The students will study art of various fiber artists such as Faith Ringgold, Sandy Skoglund and Louise Bourgeouis and understand why artists use soft materials to create their work and apply this knowledge to the creation of their own pieces. The learners will explore color and color mixing and apply this knowledge to the hand painting of their fiber pieces. The learners will be able to study the history of fiber arts from early quilts, and weavings to modern ones and study how artists use fabric to create soft sculptures today.

Grade 6 Computer Club (PM Club)

The grade 6 computer club's students will explore computer systems and their basic functionality. Students in this club will learn how to build 3D objects and print them with a 3D printer, learn basic programming, discuss and learn about new and upcoming technologies, browse the Internet, and play network games in a cohesive, social setting. Students will also be able to play cooperative strategy games like Age of Mythology and Minecraft and visit the virtual reality room in The TANK.

Homework Club - Tuesday (PM Club)

To assist students with organizational tasks, homework completion and study skills. We will provide resources and supports for students to complete homework and other assigned projects.

Homework Help -- Wednesday (PM Club)

In the Homework Help club we will assist students in organization, prioritization and completion of homework assignments. Students will have access to the supplies and materials needed and will be provided with a quiet, comfortable and supportive environment in which to successfully complete their assignments.

Homework Help Club - Thursday (PM Club)

Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will receive assistance in completing homework assignments. Students will complete assignments in a timely fashion to achieve their academic goals.

The purpose of the club is to provide academic support to the students. A quiet environment will be provided to help them complete their work and assistance will be given as needed.

By audition only - Jazz Band students will learn about the various techniques and styles of Jazz music. The band will perform in at least two concerts during the year.

Pep Club (PM Club)

The Pep Club is a club where students can boost school spirit and pride throughout the school. The members of the Pep Club will support classmates, athletic teams and other WMS teams with fun activities and events that promote the exciting, enthusiastic atmosphere at WMS and bring a sense of spirit and pride to our halls!

Public Debate Forum (PM Club)

This club is open to students in grades 7&8 and will be held on Wednesdays. Public Forum Debate is a form of two-on-two debate which asks debaters to discuss a current events issue. The club will seek to encourage the development of the following skills in the debaters: a. Use of logic in reasoning; b. Presentation skills; c. Moderate rate of delivery; d. Reasonable demeanor and style of presentation e. Professionalism in demeanor and delivery. Students will learn the Public Debate Forum format and run weekly debates within the club setting.

Science Club (PM Club)

The Science Club will provide opportunities for students to use STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to create various projects and to solve problems. Students will design and program simple machines, create fun and exciting structures and solve gradually more difficult puzzles and problems. They will also propose and perform experiments and investigations.

Stress Relief Club (PM Club)

Feeling stressed with school, extracurricular activities and life??? Come and learn techniques to decrease your anxiety and stress level. This club will be divided into 15 sessions and take place in the Fall and the Winter. The first will take place from September until January. The second will take place from January until May. Students will learn yoga and mindfulness techniques to practice when feeling stressed, overwhelmed or anxious. In addition, each student will receive a workbook to keep when their session finishes. The advisors will meet and place each student in either the fall or winter session. This club is made possible by a grant from the Somerset County Municipal Youth Services Commission.

Student Tech Club (PM Club)

This is an extension of the STS (Student Tech Support) Team in that it is OPEN enrollment to any interested students. The STC (Student Tech Club) will support the STS in investigating into new tools and programs that will benefit WMS staff and students. They will create useful screencasts and videos to promote technology to be shared with the school. They will create 3D print designs and use our 3D printer. They will teach each other about their own technology skills including coding and programming, troubleshooting and more!
