Art Magazine (PM Club)

If you love to create art and want to see it published on our school website, then this is the place for you! In Art Magazine we work as a group and individually to write, draw, paint and design our very own magazine. Come learn about publishing and how a design studio runs. Work with other students to create a magazine filled with your art. NOTE: This club has been running since September; new students are welcome!

Book Club (PM Club)

Students will listen to and discuss beloved children's books such as No David!, Elephant & Piggie series, Dragons Love Tacos, and more. We will engage in meaningful discussion of books, build comprehension, and model positive reading behavior. Follow-up arts and crafts activities will hone fine motor skills and direction following, and encourage creativity! We will build a love of reading to inspire life-long readers. Cell Phone Photography (PM Club)

Students will learn techniques to take photographs using their cell phones. They will then go on assignment as photojournalists to document different objects and share their work with other club members.

Creative Writing (grades 3-5) (PM Club)

Students will develop writing skills, creative thinking and imagination; practice reading aloud to classmates; develop public speaking skills and self-confidence; and practice grammar, language skills and vocabulary. NOTE: This club has been running since September; new students are welcome!

Creative Writing (grades 6-8) (PM Club)

Students will strengthen creative thinking, writing skills, and practice public speaking. Students will complete prompts prior to each club meeting. They will receive feedback on their writing prior to the club meeting, make revisions, and then present their final revised version at the meeting. NOTE: This club has been running since September; new students are welcome!

Diversity Club (PM Club)

Do you think that all people deserve to be treated equally and that differences are what make us unique? If yes, then the Diversity club is for you. The goal of the club is to promote diversity, cultural awareness and give support to students and staff on multicultural issues in the middle school. Students in this club will work with the Diversity Club at Watchung Hills Regional High School. NOTE: This club has been running since September; new students are welcome!

Drama Club (PM Club)

WIth our sudden closing of school in the Spring, students in Central were unable to complete our Drama Club goals of putting on a show. Drama is a great way for many students to come out of their shells, become more confident, work together, learn what happens behind the scenes in a production, learn public speaking, displays their skills, and so much more. I plan to use an online program called Drama Notebook to guide students into this type of performing arts. NOTE: This club has been running since September; new students are welcome!

Drawing Club (PM Club)

Do you like to draw? Do you want to learn how to improve your drawing skills? Then this is the club for you! We will work on improving your skills at drawing from observation to create realistic artworks. Students will learn how to create value using several different techniques including crosshatching and stipple. So if you want to become a better draftsman, then come join the Drawing Club! Drawing with Mrs. Ronkiewicz (PM Club)

Each week this club will see a new drawing tutorial created by Mrs. Ronkiewicz. These step by step videos will help students understand what goes into the drawing process by creating a variety of different characters and pictures on a weekly basis. Students will be amazed by their success as they are taught "How to Draw" by taking it one step at a time! NOTE: This club has been running since September; new students are welcome!

Forensics Public Speaking (PM Club)

Forensics Club is a fun way to help interested students develop their public speaking skills. Activities will include learning about fundamental forensics events such as Declamation, Duo Interpretation and Extemporaneous and Expository Speaking (to name a few), plus a detailed look at how to prepare a written piece and activities to help students become effective communicators, performers and speakers. The first few weeks of club will focus on the fundamentals of public speaking. The remainder of the club will continue with students who have the interest and skills to compete. Competitions will be offered as they become available. NOTE: This club has been running since September; new students are welcome!

Forensics Public Speaking- Seventh Grade (PM Club)

Forensics Club is a fun way to help interested students develop their public speaking skills. Activities will include learning about fundamental forensics events such as Declamation, Duo Interpretation and Extemporaneous and Expository Speaking (to name a few), plus a detailed look at how to prepare a written piece and activities to help students become effective communicators, performers and speakers. Our club will engage in fun improv activities as well as prepare pieces for in-school (and out of school) competitions and possibly share them with outside venues who might enjoy our students' public speaking skills. This club will meet regularly one time per week and 2-3 times per week when preparing for tournaments. Students are invited to participate in tournaments, but are not expected. This is optional.

Fun with Science (PM Club)

We will have fun doing different experiments using things students can find at home or can easily obtain. Students will be able to suggest their own experiments and do their own demonstrations to share with the club.

Students learn about countries and capitals by continent, land features and bodies of water, and do some "armchair travel" as well.

Girls Who Code (PM Club)

Girls Who Code Clubs are meant for girls to join our sisterhood of supportive peers and role models, and use Computer Science to change the world. When you join a Club, you will be able to learn from fun and simple online coding tutorials, build community through interactive activities, and learn about inspiring role models. You then work in teams to design and build a Girls Who Code Project that solves real world problems you care about through code! Good Eats (PM Club)

Good Eats is a cooking club for students to learn to use kitchen tools, follow recipes, learn measuring and enjoy their own cooking. Recipes are selected for ease and nutrition. NOTE: This club has been running since September; new students are welcome!

Grade 6 Computer Club (PM Club)

The grade 6 computer club's students will explore computer systems and their basic functionality. Students in this club will learn how to build 3D objects and print them with a 3D printer, learn basic programming, discuss and learn about new and upcoming technologies, browse the Internet, and play network games in a cohesive, social setting. Students will also be able to play cooperative strategy games like Age of Mythology and Minecraft and visit the virtual reality room in The TANK.

Harry Potter Club (PM Club)

Students will explore the Wizarding World of Harry Potter through a series of activities that include crafting, cooking, reading, writing, and much more! Students will explore their interest in Harry Potter through themed curriculum extension activities. This club will require the use of basic craft supplies and select food items.

Head 2 Head (PM Club)

This club will provide opportunities for students to engage in online group activities or solo activities that are competitive/cooperative in nature. This club will provide additional opportunities for students to connect, explore competition, work on cooperative skills and develop sportsmanship. Activities are similar to minute to win it challenges, trivia, and home olympics.

Home Baking (PM Club)

Learn how to make delicious baked goods including cakes, cupcakes, muffins, cookies, breads and more! Learn about kitchen safety. Collaborate with other home bakers and show off your creations. (Adult supervision is required.)

Junior Screenwriter (PM Club)

Calling all Screenwriters, Video Editors and Actors! In this club, students will learn how to make their very own movie! We will work on the elements of story telling as well as basic video editing skills using Screencastify with the goals of creating a group movie project. At the end of the club, we will have a virtual screening where we will enjoy everyone's creations together! NOTE: This club has been running since September; new students are welcome!

Lights Camera Action! (PM Club)

NOTE: This club is full, but you may put your name on a waiting list. Lights Camera Action is a club for actors, actresses, and comedians! Do you like making up your own commercials, skits or TV shows? In this club you will create funny scenes using the props and costumes you find at home! Every 2 weeks you will have an awesome video of your performance to share with your family (one week to write the script and record and the next to put it all together with special effects and music). This class is open to all creative students who like to make people laugh. Join the fun and shine like a star!

Little Leaders Club  (PM Club)

Little Leaders is an opportunity for students in grades 1 & 2 to explore qualities of being a successful leader and role model for their peers. Students will be presented with read alouds and engage in activities that are based on the Six Pillars of Character. Students will use this opportunity to develop a strong sense of self and community.

Mindfulness Circle (PM Club)

Welcome to Mindfulness Circle; is a newly emerging discipline in K-12 education. Our objectives are to enhance attention, promotes pro-social behavior and general well-being will improving our learning strategies. Recent studies demonstrate that mindfulness program across the K-12 age spectrum promotes the ability to pay attention with kindness and curiosity. It teaches students how to pay attention and enhance both academics, and social-emotional learning. Students will engage in a large array of mindfulness techniques, practices and strategies. Together, we will learn the many advances of having a more calm, peaceful and thankful mindset. During these uncertain times, mindfulness is more than necessary for anyone including students! I hope together we can find gratitude, peace and balance during these times. NOTE: This club has been running since September; new students are welcome!

Musical Theater Club (PM Club)

We will look at a variety of Broadway show through the eyes of the performer. We will watch parts of shows and full shows to gain knowledge on how an actor gets 'into' a role, how the story and direction dictate what way they go with the character.

Namastay My Best (PM Club)

Students will learn healthy ways to manage stress, regulate emotions, build confidence, and express creativity. We will engage in mindfulness, yoga, exercise, nature & outdoor activities, and creative art projects, all to boost overall well-being. Origami 101 (PM Club)

Do you know what origami is? Origami is the art of paper-folding. Its name derives from Japanese words ori (“folding”) and kami (“paper”). Traditional origami consists of folding a single sheet of square paper (often with a colored side) into a sculpture without cutting, gluing, taping, or even marking it. In our weekly Club, we will be learning how to fold origami figures. The only supply required is paper. Come and join us!

Pep Club (PM Club)

Do you like to plan parties and events? Are you someone who loves fun? If so, come out and join the Pep Club. We plan and run school-wide events to make WMS a fun, lively and spirited place! Some of our previous events include a Halloween Costume Contest, a Thanksgiving Turkey Hunt and Find the Leprechaun's gold. This year will look a LOT different but we need good ideas for fun things we can do virtually. The Pep Club decides which events to hold, so if you want a say in fun things happening around school, the Pep Club is for you!

Qigong- A Space To Relax (PM Club)

NOTE: This club is full, but you may put your name on a waiting list. The movements involved in Qigong exercises can help children to quickly improve their balance, flexibility, coordination, strength, agility, stamina and muscle tone. The meditative aspects of Qigong can help children to reduce anxiety and worry, calm their minds, improve focus and concentration, release tension and improve mental clarity.

Screenwriter (PM Club)

Stretch and Breathe (PM Club)

We will Integrate yoga and mindfulness to promote physical and emotional health and wellbeing. Students will learn what mindfulness is and how it differs from meditation; explore some common myths and misperceptions about mindfulness and yoga; use different mindfulness techniques and yoga poses to decrease stress & anxiety, improve sleep, improve body awareness, increase alertness, and improve focus and attention; use mindfulness and yoga techniques to create a sense of connection and community. We will create a lifelong interest in health, wellness and self-care.

The Paper Airplane Club (PM Club)

Welcome to THE Paper Airplane Club. Here you will have a chance to learn what makes paper airplanes fly and how to create different types of paper airplanes. Hosted by Mr. T and Mr. Lee. We hope to share the magic of flight, the wonder of planes, and the fun of paper with you.

Turn the Page- A Book Club (PM Club)

Students of all ability levels will have the opportunity to read a variety of pre-selected novels. There will be a focus on the story elements, as well as several critical thinking skills. All pre-selected novels will also be available on Learning Ally, as to include special education students. Members will be able to practice important oral expressive language skills and take risks, while contributing to a group discussion with confidence.
